Japanese Ink Painting and Art Book Publishing

Japanese ink painting (sumi-e) is a centuries-old tradition, handed down from master to students, as well as a daily meditative practice. Mafalda Tenente, MBA’06J, presents us her artist’s journey and her latest art book, The Tea House Diary, a creative notebook illustrated with a selection of her ink paintings. She will walk us through scrolls previously seen only in Tokyo. There will be tea and refreshments served, and a short hands-on introduction to Japanese ink painting for interested participants.
Since 2017, Mafalda has been exhibiting in Zurich and Japan. In 2020 she won the Judge’s Special Award at the international ink painting exhibition in Tokyo. In 2021 she participated in the world’s largest print show for works on washi in Tokushima.
